Bruce Nuzie of Plainview was elected the 19th President of the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center in Plainview at the agency's 47th Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors on June 18.

As president, I look forward to working closely with our extraordinary volunteers, dedicated board of directors and outstanding professional staff to create the best possible programs and services to meet the changing needs of our community,Úquot; he added.

A dedicated and active member of the Mid-Island Y JCC since 1989, Nuzie has served on the board of directors for the past eight years. He chaired the Health & Physical Fitness Committee, co-chaired the Finance Committee and was a co-coach of the JCC Maccabi Boys Soccer Team. For the past two years, he has co-chaired the JCC's Golf Outing.

His civic and community involvement includes having served for the past 10 years as a soccer coach for the Plainview-Old Bethpage Soccer Club and as the former treasurer of Poets in Public Service, a not-for-profit organization that trains writers and poets to teach short-term workshops in public elementary and high schools.

A certified public accountant, Nuzie is a senior vice president of Oaktree Capital Management LLC in New York City. Prior to joining the firm in 1995, he served for nine years as controller for accounting and reporting at Win Properties. He previously was a senior manager in the audit department of Ernst and Young for seven years. Nuzie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting (cum laude) from the City University of New York at Queens College.

He and his wife, Harriet, have three children, Adam, 16, Ian, 14, and Erica, 11, all of whom graduated from the JCC's nursery school. The Nuzies are members of Manetto Hill Jewish Center.
