The Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting last week. Summer meetings are less attended than usual, but important matters were still discussed.
Donald Ingram, vice president of the chamber, started the meeting and asked Beth Bleistift, recording secretary, to re-cap the last meeting, which focused on a discussion of the future of Plainview and Old Bethpage as a follow-up to Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi's community meeting held a few months ago.
The next order of business was to discuss the Chamber of Commerce welcome signs that are going to be installed throughout the community. David Dender, who sits on the board of directors, said he is finalizing the welcome signs and since there is not one distinct entrance into Plainview and Old Bethpage, he needs suggestions where to place the signs.
Brian Horowitz was announced as the winner of a $1,000 chamber and Astoria Federal scholarship. He will be attending Cornell University in the fall.
Donna Goldstein, owner of Hope Physical Therapy, was nominated to represent the chamber as this year's small business person of the year through the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce.
Those interested in joining the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce are encouraged to attend the next chamber meeting, which is scheduled for August 20 at 8 a.m. at Chestnut Grove, which is located at 12 Washington Avenue in Plainview.
