Dawn Michelle Eichen, co-valedictorian of the Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School, began high school as powerfully as she finished it. Eichen has been a prominent voice within the student body beginning as public relations secretary of the ninth grade. Eichen's peers look to her as a trusted leader, knowing their voices are heard. She views her involvement in the school's extracurricular program as a vital component to her high school program. She was elected president of the French National Honor Society and Secretariat member of METMUNC, the school's foremost intellectual activity. Her participation in the National Honor Society has been noteworthy as well and this year she made her mark with her election as president of the Club Council.
Impressively enough, Eichen is also one of the most distinguished athletes in the school. She is captain of the varsity soccer, basketball and softball teams. Eichen's ability to achieve so much on the field despite her rigorous academic schedule, has been recognized this year when she was granted the Channel 12 Scholar Athlete Award. In addition, Eichen was granted the annual Woman's Achievement Award from the National Organization of Women.
Of all these accomplishments, being announced co-valedictorian is the one she cherishes the most. Eichen has dedicated the past four years of her life trying to make a difference in the high school community. For Eichen there is no greater honor than the recognition she has received by the institution in which she has placed so much of her time, effort and energy. Eichen will be attending Duke University in the fall.
