(Editor's Note: The following letter was sent to the Plainview-Old Bethpage Senior Citizen Club and is being reprinted here at the author's request.)
After 50 years of a happy marriage, cancer claimed my soulmate and the whole world changed for me. I drifted for 18 months when loneliness and depression took over and I lost my way. Thank God for my two daughters who urged me to move near them in Plainview and join the POB Senior Citizen Club for companionship. This move saved my life and transformed a lost soul in a strange town into a feeling that life goes on and I should be a part of it.
Since joining the POB Senior Center, I have had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people that I could bond with and who have similar interests. They offer more than social comraderie, but lunches, classes, discussions, bus trips, theater fare, entertainment and many other activities. POB fills a void that we cannot do by ourselves. Is it any wonder why there are over 500 members?
So to Rachel, Leona and Lorraine and the whole group of volunteers that make POB run smoothly, I say keep up the good work. It's not only humanitarian and fun, but necessary in our area. We seniors need you and bless you all for all the good you have done.
