Copies of the two-volume Expanded Project Proposal/Design Report (EPP/DR) for the Bethpage State Parkway Bikeway Extension are available at the Syosset, Bethpage and Plainview-Old Bethpage libraries for public review and comment. The comment period will end Dec. 11.

The project's objective is the construction of a bikeway that extends the existing Bethpage Parkway Bike Path from its current terminus in Bethpage State Park to the Long Island Rail Road station in Syosset.

The design report was prepared with input from over 25 local civic, environmental and recreational groups over the past two years and from comments received from the Public Information Center held in March 2001. Once the proposal is approved, the detailed design of the proposed bike path will be developed. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring of 2004.

Anyone with comments and questions pertaining to the document or the project may submit these in writing to Joseph G. Scariza, Regional Design Engineer; Dept. of Transportation; Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, NY 11788. Statements may also be submitted via e-mail to bethpagebikeway@gw.dot.state.ny.us. All Comments received by the New York State Department of Transportation will be considered in finalizing the EPP/DR.
