Castle Senior Living at Plainview, which is located at 150 Sunnyside Boulevard, will be participating in National Assisted Living Week. The week long celebration, which takes place September 8 - 14 will include a carnival and also a September 11 tribute.

The main goal of National Assisted Living Week is for providers across the country to participate in community outreach events to help educate consumers about their senior care choices. The Assisted Living Federation of America's (ALFA) national theme this year is "Honoring the Spirit of Our Nation". This theme suggests numerous patriotic events as well as encourages consumers to take advantage of getting valuable information about assisted living and learning the importance of aging in place as well as keeping assisted living regulated at the state level.

The events at Castle Senior Living will start with a Grandparents Day celebration on Sunday, September 8. There will be a carnival from 1:30 - 4 p.m. at Castle featuring many activities for the family especially the children to help celebrate this day including clowns, face painting, games, light refreshments and snack foods.

Monday, September 9, will highlight speaker Fritzi Gros-Daillon of Transitions USA as she discusses the transitions of life at 6:30 p.m. "Who Gets Grandma's Yellow Pie Plate" is the name of her talk and the public is welcome to attend. There will be a step-by-step guide to passing on personal possessions. It is designed to be an effective tool for a variety of family groups working to make decisions in different, somewhat difficult situations. Learn how to plan ahead to allow for more choices, better communication and fewer misunderstandings.

Wednesday, September 11 will feature the performance of the Twin County Chorus, which is part of the nationally recognized Sweet Adelines. They will have a Commemorative Concert "Sing Out for Peace" at 7 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.

Each week, the group rehearses at Castle Senior Living at Plainview. The purpose of this event is to bring music, song and happiness to those whose lives were touched by the tragedies that took place on September 11. "Sing out for Peace" will be a celebration of life through music and will be dedicated to the world and its people. "We wanted our events to be educational, but because September 11 and National Assisted Living Week coincide, we wanted to be considerate of the timing of it," said Vicki Ellner, director of Marketing/Community Relations at Castle Senior Living at Plainview.

Thursday September 12 will highlight motivational speaker Dr. Jan Krivisheiw-Wenz, who will lead a workshop in self-empowerment. Her talk, which is called Enjoying Life in Anxious Times, will start at 8:30 a.m. and is open to the public. Dr. Jan is trained as a clinical hypnotherapist, behavioral medicine specialist and an aroma therapist. She has also been ordained as a minister of the Congregational Church of Practical Theology.

From an early age, Dr. Jan longed to hear the pain often associated with the human condition, such as phobias, fears, sadness, isolationism, stress and anxiety. She pursued studies in treating maladies, then directed her efforts toward the art of motivational speaking. She is highly sought after by those who seek empowerment.

Everyone is encouraged to attend these events at Castle Senior Living at Plainview. The week will also include an open house for the community. For more information, please call Castle Senior Living at 570-3330.
