Ruth Lawrence, a resident of Woodbury, will be featured in an art exhibit on display at the Jericho Public Library for the month of September. The exhibit will feature poetry and illustrations from her book Mostly Limericks for the Millennium.

An example of Lawrence's work

Lawrence has been drawing and painting since she was 11 years old and received an art set as a gift. According to the 76-year-old Lawrence, the poetry didn't come until she was 70.

Lawrence graduated as an art teacher from C.W. Post College and taught art in Nassau County schools for many years. Once she retired, she had more time to work on her poetry and limericks. She has been holding art exhibits over the past eight years at various libraries across Long Island. Lawrence also reads her poetry at local libraries and shows slides of her artwork. "Everyone loves the show," said Lawrence. "Seniors, kids, everyone."

Lawrence's work can be seen at the Jericho Library, which is located at 1 Merry Lane in Jericho, during regular library hours throughout September. On September 22, she will host a Meet the Author segment from 2-4 p.m. also at the Jericho Library.
