Plainview Fire Department Celebrates 75th Anniversary

The Plainview Fire Department held a parade and block party on Saturday, July 20 to honor the 75th Anniversary of the Department. The parade, which started at the Plainview Park on Washington Avenue and concluded at Fire Department Headquarters on Old Country Road, withstood the threat of rain.

Ed Ocker was honored as the Grand Marshal of the parade. He is an ex-chief of the Plainview Fire Department with over 50 years of service.

The Plainview Fire Department was joined in the parade by other Fire Departments from across Long Island. Participating fire departments included Bethpage, Hicksville, Jericho, Farmingdale, South Farmingdale, Westbury, Carl Place, Melville and Huntington. Each department was accompanied with by a band.

After the parade, residents enjoyed a block party behind headquarters, which featured games, rides and refreshments. Those who attended the festivities had a great time while at the same time honored members of the fire department for their loyal and dedicated service to the community.
