Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School recently recognized a distinguished alumnus, Richard B. Turan, with the school's first Distinguished Alumni Award. Turan is the president and CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, a New York State Public Benefit Corporation that owns and operates the Nassau University Medical Center, A. Holy Patterson Extended Care Facility and seven community health centers. Turan is a 1964 graduate of Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School.

The presentation, made by Superintendent Dr. Martin Brooks and Principal Art Jonas included a plaque, a golf shirt, cap and mug with the school's logo, and Mr. Turan's name placed on the perpetual plaque in a hallway of the school. Also present was Board of Education trustee Alicia Kabak.

Turan is also a past president of Briarcliffe College. While president, he allowed POB students access to take their Advanced Placement exams on campus. He currently resides in Cold Spring Harbor.
