In an interview with the Plainview Herald, Town of Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone recently responded to questions regarding the proposed power plant on Spagnoli Road, the topic of an article in last week's edition of the paper.
"The proposed plant is right on the border of Huntington and Oyster Bay," said Petrone. "As an interested party, the Town [of Huntington] intervened and hired an attorney and an environmental consultant so all of the information being presented to us can be evaluated from a non-bias viewpoint."
Petrone also explained that everyone needs to wait for a decision from New York State as to the location of the proposed plant and if it is viable. The Town of Huntington cannot make any decisions until the state renders a decision.
"We are waiting to hear from New York State right now as they are trying to decide if this new site is even viable," he said. "The state has put the burden into KeySpan's court in terms of whether or not this is a viable site and they have to prove that. We are very early in the process here. We will be talking to KeySpan to get their information and we talked to the SHARED group. Our consultants will then review the information presented to us."
According to Petrone there has been no contact between the Town of Oyster Bay board members and those board members in Huntington, but he hopes there is contact in the near future so the two can work together for the betterment of their respective towns.
