Philip Kopstein, 94, longtime Plainview resident, died on Sept. 26, 2001. He was born in Vandergrift, PA and received his BS degree from NYU Law School. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army as a security intelligence officer in the Middle East. He was later an instructor at the Security Intelligence School and was discharged with the rank of major. He practiced law, specializing in matrimonial law and collaborated in writing a legal text for the NY Law of Alimony. He was the president of the Plainview Jewish Center from 1963 to 1965. An attorney, Mr. Kopstein was former supervisor-in-charge of the NY Office of the ATF Division of the US Treasury Dept. Husband of Sylvia (Bergman). Father of David and Richard. Grandfather of Joshua, Scott, Tommy and Jeannie.
