The horrible tragedy that struck the United States over two weeks ago will never be forgotten. Optimists look at the tragedy and say at least we, as a country, have united together. We are not Italian, Irish, German etc. right now, but American. Who knows how long this newfound patriotism will last, but we should enjoy this unity.

Americans have come together by volunteering their time, donating money and doing anything they can to help those personally affected by this devastating tragedy. Some are selling flags and others T- shirts for Americans to display their patriotism. Most are not selling these items for profit, but rather donating the money they make to a charity.

Unfortunately, some people and stores are selling "9-11" T-shirts with the world trade center pictured in the background and not donating the money they make, but rather selling the shirts and other paraphernalia for their own profit.

We should not capitalize on a disaster. This act of terrorism that took place on Sept. 11 has taken close to 7,000 lives. This is not a sporting event, the millennium or an excuse to make money, but rather a national tragedy.

Hang your flags outside of your home and wear your red, white and blue, but please remember that this is not a fad, but a show of support for the United States. We need to think of those who lost their lives and those who are working to remove the tons of rubble where the World Trade Center once stood. Wear the colors, but remember what they mean.
