"It is a pleasure to welcome Ms. Manouvrier to Plainview-Old Bethpage," commented superintendent, Dr. Martin Brooks. "Much of her career has been centered around middle school education, and she has received many honors that speak to the excellence with which she executes her work." Board of Education President Alicia Kabak joined Brooks in extending a warm welcome to Mattlin's new principal. "Ms. Manouvrier has the experience, philosophical vision and enthusiasm needed to motivate students and staff toward educational excellence. On behalf of the board, I wish her the best of luck in her new position."
While in the Great Neck schools, Manouvrier created a model program for the district to help at-risk and minority students achieve; chaired the summer curriculum workshops; and taught high school English, grades 9-12 including honors. Her first job was as an English teacher at Bethlehem Central Middle School. She then joined Great Neck South Middle School as an English teacher, and then went on to be an English teacher at Great Neck South High School. Manouvrier served in the Great Neck School District from 1974 to 1997.
Manouvrier received both her bachelor's degree in teacher education and master's degree in English from the State University of New York at Albany. She earned her SAS and SDA from C.W. Post College. A member of Phi Delta Kappa, Manouvrier is a Teacher of Excellence nominee of the Albany Alumni Association. Her affiliations include the National Council of Teachers of English, and the Association of Curriculum and Development.
Calling the new opportunity a privilege, she noted, "I am looking forward to the excitement and challenge of this new position." Manouvrier continued by saying she is "eager to work with Mattlin Middle School students, parents, and teachers, so that everyone can have an enriching experience."
Among her contributions at the middle school level, she was on the Great Neck South Middle School task force, a junior great books reader, a building representative committee member, a member of the building curriculum group, and on the school management committee. Looking toward the future, Plainview-Old Bethpage's newest administrator hopes to begin a doctorate in educational administration, and plans to complete a children's book she hopes will evolve into a series.
Manouvrier resides in Jericho with her husband, Paul, who is the vice president of a display/advertising company. They have a daughter, Jaclyn, who is a sophomore at the University of Delaware, and a black-and-white cocker spaniel.
An avid reader, Manouvrier is especially interested in Shakespeare. She also enjoys Bunka, a Japanese form of embroidery. Her other hobbies include travel, and collecting Royal Doulton porcelain dolls, black Wedgewood, and Norman Rockwell plates.
