The Plainview-Old Bethpage Board of Education has unanimously appointed Paulette B. Miller as principal of the Kindergarten Center. According to President Evy Rothman, Ms. Miller has extensive knowledge of early childhood education and contagious enthusiasm. "The board was also impressed with the good rapport she is known to have with parents, teachers and students in her previous assignment in the New York City schools."
The search for a qualified leader included several committees comprising parents, administrators and teachers, who made a recommendation that the board appoint Ms. Miller. The appointment was effective July 1.
Ms. Miller joins Plainview-Old Bethpage from Elementary School 244, where she served as assistant principal and acting principal. Before becoming an administrator, she served as a staff developer and a teacher trainer, also in the New York City school system. In addition, Ms. Miller was a cluster teacher, who taught reading and math strategies from pre-k to grade 3. In the mid-1980s, she served as a corrective mathematics teacher, diagnosing test scores, devising diagnostic charts and prescribing individual programs. Ms. Miller began her career in education as an early childhood teacher. Presently, the Kindergarten Center's new principal is an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College's graduate school teaching methods for the elementary teacher.
"After many years of working within the New York City public school system, I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience in the prestigious Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District," Ms Miller said.
Ms. Miller attended Brooklyn College, earning her bachelor of arts and master of science in elementary education and a master of science in supervision and administration. She looks forward to participating in outdoor sports such as cycling and hiking in Wantagh, where she recently relocated. In addition, Ms. Miller is a fan of skiing and cultural arts.
