Plainview-Old Bethpage runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes of all ages and levels of ability are cordially invited to be part of a new road race on Sunday, Sept. 10 - the inaugural Fly With the Angels Run, over a fast, flat four mile course that starts and finishes at Nassau County's beautiful Bay Park in East Rockaway.
The four mile run will start promptly at 10 a.m., and will be preceded by the Junior Angels 1/4 Mile Fun Run for youngsters.
Join us for the race, and for the "Lunch by the Bay" that follows - an all you can eat barbecue with all the trimmings that is absolutely free to all participants and volunteers. Not running? Have a non-running spouse or child? Join us for the barbecue for only $5. There will also be a big raffle with a grand prize of a "Night in Manhattan," featuring show tickets, hotel room and limo! Every entrant in the run is also automatically entered in the raffle.
The run will be administered by the Greater Long Island Running Club, with technical direction supplied by David Katz of Finish Line Road Race Technicians. Darlene Ragone of the Angels charity will serve as the race director. Congressman Peter King has graciously agreed to serve as the honorary chairman of the race committee.
The entire net proceeds of the run will be turned over to the Aneurysm Network for Grants, Education and Loving Support (ANGELS), for the benefit of victims of brain aneurysms and their families.
The entry fee is only $17 for those who preregister and $20 who register the day of the run. Entries for the Fun Run are $6 preregistered, and $7 on the day of the run. A top quality commemorative shirt will be given to each entrant in the Four Mile Run; all youngsters finishing the Fun Run will receive a special medal when they cross the finish line.
Awards will be given to the top male and female finisher overall, and the top three male and top three female finishers in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, and 75 and over. Awards will also be presented to the top three male and female wheelchair competitors, and the top three male and female finishers in each of two "Clydesdale" weight divisions: 185-199 pounds and 200 pounds plus for the men, and 140-159 and 160 plus for the women.
This promises to be a very pleasant morning directly along the shoreline in a very pretty part of Long Island, for a very important cause.
