Oyster Bay Town Councilman Leonard B. Symons announced that the Plainview Baseball Association will host the year 2000 New York State 9 and 10 Year Old Little League Championship Tournament.
"I am proud to announce that this year's New York State Little League Championship Tournament for nine- and 10-year olds will be hosted by our own Plainview Baseball Association at Plainview Community Park," Councilman Symons said. "The tournament, which is scheduled to take place from Aug. 5 through Aug. 9, represents the very first time that any locale in Nassau has hosted this event."
According to Councilman Symons, the double elimination tournament will see the four New York State regional winners pitted against one another.
"The four winners from New York State regions, including Long Island, New York City, Westchester to Rochester and the Western New York area, will be playing one another in Plainview," Councilman Symons stated. "The elimination games are not yet completed, so we don't know which teams will be competing in the tournament at this point. There are some incredibly talented young athletes playing baseball in our state. I anticipate that this year's tournament will be pretty exciting."
"In addition to the fine players, we are also very proud of the Plainview Park Little League field that the town constructed to Williamsport Standards," Councilman Symons continued. "The field has all of the amenities necessary for a championship of this kind. We have both electric and manual scoreboards, a press box, bleachers, sod infield and outfield, an underground irrigation system, and fencing all around. We are definitely prepared to host some great baseball games."
