Applications are now available for the third annual Vytra Kids Helping Kids Run, to be held on the roads of Plainview on Father's Day, Sunday, June 18 and runners and walkers of every age and level of ability are cordially invited to be a partof this very special event.

Clowns, sports personalities and other surprises will once again ensure that the Kids Helping Kids Run is a great Father's Day morning of family fun!

The event will start and finish at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School, on Southern Parkway in Plainview. There will be races for everyone - starting with a 440-yard sprint around the track for youngsters at 8:15 a.m., followed by 1/2 mile fun run for kids (twice around the track) at 8:30 a.m. and the main event - a 5 Kilometer Run on the roads - which will start promptly at 9:15 a.m. The 5 Kilometer course is a USATF certified and lightning fast!
Everyone who enters will receive a high quality commemorative T-shirt, and will be eligible for a special raffle with incredible prizes. Among the items being raffled off are a trip to Disney World, a free summer at Kenwal Day Camp, a 27" color TV donated by P.C. Richards, a computer system donated by Staples, a Bose Surround Sound System donated by Bose Corporation, His and Her Ross Bicycles donated by Steve Goldmeier, and tickets to Yankee, Mets and Islander games. Additional raffles can be purchased at $5 each, $10 for three, $15 for four or $20 for five.
The event is being conducted by the Kids Helping Kids organization, under the direction of Bob Islick, with the entire net proceeds to benefit ASPIRE and other children's charities. Race administration is by the Greater Long Island Running Club, with course measurement and timing by David Katz of Finish Line Road Race Technicians, using the new ChampionChip scoring system.
Cash Awards will be presented to the first three male and female finishers in the 5 Kilometer Run, as well as the top male and female Masters (age 40 plus) runners. In addition, plaques will be presented to the first three male and first three females in each of the following age groups: 8 and under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80 and over, to the first three male and female wheelchair finishers, and to the first three male and female Clydesdale finishers in each of two weight divisions. Special awards will be presented to the youngest male and female finishers in the 5K run who are residents of Plainview-Old Bethpage, and to the top three Parent/Son and Parent/Daughter teams (age 12 and under). All youngsters who complete either the 40 yard sprint and the 1/2 mile fun run will receive commemorative finishers medals.
The entry fee is $18 for those who pre-register (only $16 for members of the Greater Long Island Running Club) and $20 who wait till the day of the race. Kids age 12 and under can enter free with their entry fee being paid for by sponsors Woodbury Country Deli, Super Runners Shop and Bagel Boss.
