More than 200 runners who were gearing up for the 2000 Canon Long Island Marathon and Half Marathon showed up at the Bethpage Public Library on Tuesday evening, May 2 for the annual Pre-Marathon/Half Marathon Clinic co-sponsored by the Greater Long Island Running club and the Nassau County Department of Recreation and Parks.
The audience was treated to a discussion by a distinguished panel that consisted of Marathon Technical Director David Katz, Marathon Medical Director Dr. Edward Fryman, past Marathon winner and Long Island Track and Field Long Distance Running Chairman Alex Cuozzo, two time Marathon runner-up Donna McMahon, Newsday running and fitness columnist John Hane, and Sports Physical Therapist Scott Belding. They led the runners through the last 72 hours prior to the event, running the event itself, and recovering from the marathon, and answered questions from the audience.
"We are pleased to be able to bring this clinic as a service to Long Island runners," stated Greater Long Island Running Club President Mike Polansky, who served as the moderator for the panel. "I hope that all the first timers listened carefully, and will have a better and healthier experience on Sunday because of being here at the clinic tonight."
