This recognition is a particularly gratifying award in that one of his former students thought so highly of him and his impact on her that she recommended him for this distinction. She recommended Mr. Hirsch because he "made a difference in my life."
David Hirsch is a graduate of the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas and his graduate degrees from Long Island University/C.W. Post Campus and Queens College of the City University of New York. Mr. Hirsch has been teaching in Plainview-Old Bethpage since 1980 and he is an active member of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), the New York State School Music Association (NMEA), the National Educators Association/NY Chapter, the Percussive Arts Society (PAS), the National Association of Jazz Educators (NAJE), and the Association for School Curriculum Development (ASCD).
Presently, Mr. Hirsch teaches the Symphonic Band (grades 7 and 8) and the Jazz Band at Mattlin Middle School. He is the club advisor for the Holiday Ensemble at Mattlin and he is also one of the band instrument teachers for the fourth graders at the Old Bethpage School. He remains active as a professional percussionist performing with various shows and for other engagements in the New York metropolitan area.
He and his wife, Melynda, are the proud parents of two children, Bryan and Lauren.
