POB Board of Ed Votes Unanimously On Grandfathering Clauses During Redistricting
Monday night, Jan. 31, the Board of Education unanimously approved a recommendation relating to the grandfathering of certain grade levels, as the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District undergoes redistricting. The recommendation by Dr. Anthony Cavanna, superintendent, was based on over four months of meetings held to get input from the school community and administration.

Lady Hawks Are Exemplary Scholar-Athletes
On Jan. 10, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Anthony Cavanna took time to honor their women's high school tennis team for being awarded the New York State scholar-athlete team award. This award was in recognition of the team's high cumulative grade point average (93 percent).

Running Club Scores in State Parks Winter Series
The annual Winter Series of 6 Kilometer running races hosted by the Long Island State Parks Region was a major success once again this year, and the Greater Long Island Running Club was proud to have played a major role once again this year. The series consisted of three races on successive Sunday mornings - at Heckscher State Park on Jan. 23, at Caumsett State Park on Jan. 30, and the finale at Jones Beach State Park on Feb. 6.

Plainview Lightning Wins Tournament and Sportsmanship Award
The Plainview Lightning under 11 boys soccer team sent six boys to the Plainview indoor tournament came home victorious. They finished with four wins and two ties and won the championship game with a very exciting 3-2 overtime victory. All the boys played every minute of each game. There were no substitutes. They learned a great lesson in relying on their teammates. All players contributed with outstanding plays when needed. The tournament team was made up of Scott Eidler, Scott Charles, Justin Winiarz, William Necker, David Meinberg and Brett Marx.
