"Regrets, I've had a few" is a line from Frank Sinatra's song, written by Paul Anka. In the lyrics, Frank tells us that, overall, he was not unhappy with the way things progressed in his lifetime.

While Paul Anka and Frank Sinatra insist they did things "their way," they do admit to having a few regrets. Personally, I don't think any person truly gets everything he wishes for and I do take comfort in the thought that both Anka and Sinatra had a few regrets.

Edith Piaf, the diminutive Parisian chanteuse, states in her chilling song "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien," that she has no regrets.

I think that anyone over 35 years old has some doubts over something they did, said or whom they kissed.

Being "Over 60 and getting younger," it is my senior prerogative to list and explain a few minor regrets that I wish to confess to my wonderful readers. Do not take them too seriously as they are bothersome, but they are not disabling.

1. I wish I had learned to type. One finger typing does not succeed in the Computer Age. I make my e-mail messages so sparse that they don't express my innermost feelings. I am governed more by my fear of a long, drawn-out typing session than by the thoughts I wish to express. I am sorry I did not pay attention in my high school typing class at James Monroe 50 years ago.

2. I wish I had learned to roller skate. It looks so graceful and smooth. The in-line skating craze has made me jealous of those carefree people gliding by without a care in the world. I was too busy playing stickball and shooting baskets to get a pair of skates and a skate-key.

3. I wish I had learned Roberts Rules of Order. I sit in on many meetings and I am never sure if I am in or out of order with my remarks. "A motion is on the floor", "Do I hear a second", "Let's table that suggestion" and "Point of order are phrases I am not altogether familiar or comfortable with. I could buy a copy of Roberts Rules and learn it now, but it seems like dry and boring reading at this age.

4. I wish I would have acquired a teacher's license, somewhere, sometime, along the way. Although I was a soccer and basketball coach, I was always too busy to get a license. I enjoy assisting young people and I would love to teach part-time. At present I do teach dentistry at Jamaica Hospital and I also teach English to newly emigrated Russians. A teaching license would open some interesting and rewarding possibilities.

5. I wish that on Oct. 3, 1951, I could have spoken to Brooklyn Dodger Manager Charlie Dresden. I would have told him not to bring in Ralph Branca to pitch against Bobby Thompson. It would have saved me a lot of anguish over the last 49 years.

Ah Me! Regrets and Wishes!
