Among the highlights of the Nov. 16 meeting of the Greater Long Island running Club was the presentation of a check for $3,000 by the club to the New York State Games for the Physically Challenged.
The $3,000 came out of the proceeds of this year's TOBAY Triathlon, and Triathlon Director Steve Winkler presented the check to Angela Melledy, the publisher of Able Newspaper, who was representing the games and games athlete Kerry Regan of Bethpage. Kerry, now a teenager and an avid runner, has been part of the games as a blind athlete from the beginning.
"This is a special privilege for the club, and for me personally," observed Winkler. "We are extremely happy to be able to support athletics and physical fitness for young people who have physical disabilities, and the New York State Games for the Physically Challenged are one of the best programs of this kind in this nation. They are doing wonderful work, and it is only fitting that the proceeds of our triathlon go to support that work!"
