On Oct. 23 a unique baseball game took place at the Mattlin Middle School baseball field.
The game was between the 11-year-old travel team, winners of three prestigious tournaments last summer in Connecticut, East Meadow and Floral Park, and their parents, and don't think the Moms didn't hold their own. The Dads, who were "quite good in their day," showed their offspring some finer points of the game. So much so that the parents actually won 5-1!
The winning of the game was unimportant in comparison to seeing parents and sons playing together. Every community should schedule one during the baseball season.
There was a personal moment during the game when the only grandfather playing pitched to his grandson, while his son was the catcher. There were three generations of a family playing together.
The day was rather chilly but clear. It didn't make any difference for everyone had a grand time. So much so that there's talk of another game next year. As everyone left the field, consensus was that it was a day well spent.
