With Bernard Cherkof's decision not to seek re-election after 16 years as water commissioner of the Plainview Water District, Edward Shulroff announced his candidacy for water commissioner. Ed Shulroff brings to his campaign a commitment to the community that is reflected in his 34 years of living in and serving the Plainview-Old Bethpage community.

In announcing his candidacy, Ed Shulroff stated "The water district serves as our community's chief protector of our water quality and quantity. It is of paramount importance to continue this work at the water district in order to protect the health of our families and value of our neighborhoods. I began my work for the environment and the protection of the water supply with former assemblyman and Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Lewis J. Yevoli and Commissioner Bernard Chetkof when we fought to close the landfill and defeat the proposed mass burn incinerator. I am now honored to have the support of both Lew Yevoli and Bernie Chetkof in my campaign to succeed him as water commissioner."

In announcing his support of Ed Shulroff, Bernard Chetkof pointed out that "Ed brings to the water district both a great dedication to the Plainview-Old Bethpage community and the independence that is required in order to stand up to unchecked land development. I know that Ed will continue the water district's tradition of protecting our water supply and the best interests of our community."

Ed Shulroff's community activities include his 23 years of service with the Boy Scouts of America, the last 17 years serving as leader of Troop 13 in Plainview. He has also been a member of several respected organizations including the Jewish War Veterans, Marine Corp League-Sunrise Detachment and the Plainview Jewish Center. He has received the President's Scout Masters Award of Merit as well as the Knights of Pythius Award for assisting the youth of Plainview-Old Bethpage.

Edward and his wife, Marsha, have raised three children, Melissa, Pamela, and Jason, and are the proud grandparents of Joseph, Andrea, and Rachel.
