P.O.B. Board Appoints Parkway Assistant Principal
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District Board of Education has announced the appointment of Joan Wartell as Parkway Elementary's new assistant principal. Ms. Wartell has been with the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District since 1985. She began there as an elementary teacher after serving for three years in New York City Public Schools as a first-and second-grade teacher and reading specialist.

Democrats Announce Plan to Reduce Deficit
Early in September the Republican members of the Nassau County Legislature presented their plan to reduce Nassau's multi-million dollar deficit, guidelines that the legislators wanted County Executive Thomas Gulotta to follow in preparing his fiscal year 2000 budget proposal. Estimating the structural deficit at $138 million, the Republican plan called for $40 million in spending cuts by trimming salaries of elected officials and department heads as well as operating costs.

Local Runners Score in Ocean to Sound Relay
One hundred sixteen teams of eight runners each successfully completed the 14th annual Nationwide Insurance Ocean to Sound 50 Mile Relay, held on Sunday, Sept. 26 -- and teams from all over Long Island and beyond were out in force for what is one of the biggest events on the Long Island recreational sports calendar.
