Lois Weinstein of Woodbury is officially the Republican candidate for the Nassau County Legislature's 16th District, it was announced by Todd Fabrikant of Jericho, chairman of The Committee to Elect Lois Weinstein.
Weinstein, an attorney, is executive director of the Nassau County Family Resource Center, an informational and referral center for individuals facing a wide variety of challenges in their everyday family lives. Serving as Nassau County Attorney, she was assigned to the Child Abuse Coordination and Treatment Team and has been chairwoman of the county's Task Force Against Family Violence and advisor to the governor's Task Force on Rape and Sexual Abuse.
Prior to her admission to the New York State Bar in 1980, Weinstein was an elementary school teacher. She is a graduate of CUNY Queens with a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in educational psychology. She received her Juris Doctor Degree from the Hofstra University School of Law in 1980.
Weinstein is a member of the Nassau County Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts, on the advisory board to the Nassau County District Court Children's Center, and a member of the Hunters Run Homeowners Association. She has been a Girl Scouts of America Brownie Leader, on the executive board of Women's American ORT and a PTSA member in H.B. Thompson Middle School.
Weinstein and her husband, Kenneth, are the parents of three children - Dr. Jonathan, Dr. Russell and Jocelyn. "I am a candidate for the Legislature because I am aware of the problems and pressure families and individuals face today," Weinstein said.
"Through my experience with the legal system and my know-how in cutting through the red tape, I am able to directly assist people with a wide variety of conflicts and problems. I won't just talk a good game. I intend to make a difference in the lives of constituents in the 16th Legislative District," Weinstein said.
