Long Island Blood Services has once again signed on to be the primary sponsor of Rob's Run, the annual late fall 5 Kilometer cross country run, which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 28 at Stillwell Woods Town Park in Syosset. The run will once again be administered by the Greater Long Island Running Club.

This will be the seventh annual edition of Rob's Run, and Co-Race Directors Ed Melnik, a resident of Plainview, and Steve Klemes are already hard at work planning this individual and team competition that has become Long Island's premiere cross country event and a great way to show off the beauties of Syosset's Stillwell Woods to the Long Island running community.

As in past years, Rob's Run is dedicated to the memory of Rob Lauterborn, an extraordinary human being, talented runner, and good friend, who was taken from us at far too young an age. The net proceeds of Rob's Run will once again be turned over to the ASPIRE program for the rehabilitation of young amputees, victims of bone cancer and traumatic amputations.

Extra this year: Rob's Run will be the grand finale of the KeySpan Grand Prix of Long Island Long Distance Running conducted by Long Island Track & Field.

If you are a veteran of Rob's Run, you know what a great morning this is going to be. If you've never had the nerve to try cross country until now, this is an easy way of introducing yourself to the beauties of the woods and of getting an entirely new perspective on late autumn running.

"Our partnership with Long Island Blood Services has been a wonderful boost for Rob's Run and cross country running in general," observed Co-Race Director Ed Melnik. "We hope that every local runner and walker will join us on Nov. 28, and we look for at least as big a turnout for LIBS's Athletes for Life Blood Drive later in the year."
