On Thursday, July 1, at the annual organization meeting of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District, Sharon Dinkes was sworn in following her re-election this May, while newly elected Ginger Lieberman was sworn in, marking her return to the board following a one-year hiatus. District Clerk Harriet Fischer conducted the swearing in ceremony.

Vice President Eric Schultz, Dr. Anthony Cavanna (with his "P" baseball hat, symbolizing Plainview-Old Bethpage spirit!) and President Evy Rothman.

Additionally, the board called for nominations of officers who will serve during the 1999-2000 school year. Evy Rothman, who formerly served as VP, was unanimously selected president of the board of education, with Eric Schultz serving as vice president for a second time in over as decade of service on the board.

Mrs. Rothman has been extremely active in the school community over the past 17 years. As a member of the PTA, she held positions including president of Mattlin Middle School PTA and PTA council president. In addition, Mrs. Rothman once chaired the district wide site-based management committee. Among Mrs. Rothman's many contributions during her five years on the board, she has been instrumental in technology infusion throughout the district, the implementation of Reading Recovery, an expanded health curriculum, and the passage of the recent bond referendum to alleviate space shortages districtwide.

Mr. Schultz feels the district is moving in the right direction to meet the new standards set by New York State. The focus, he says, must be to "continue that push for all our children." A veteran of the POB board of education, Mr. Schultz began his 12th year of service on July 1. This is his second consecutive year as board VP.
