Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta has announced that an agreement has been reached for the sale of the 144 acres of county-owned property located on Round Swamp Road and Old Country Road in Plainview for $23.05 million. The property is being acquired by Charles B. Wang, chief executive officer of Computer Associates. The contract will be submitted to the county legislature for its consideration within the next several days.

"The agreement marks the successful completion of years of negotiations designed to place 144 acres of county-owned real estate back on the tax rolls," Gulotta said. "The purchase price returns $23.05 million to our taxpayers which is $7 million more than was budgeted for all anticipated county land sales in 1999. I am also pleased that the agreement provides for the continuation of vital county and community services which are located within the Plainview property complex."

The property is being purchased by Wang in an "as is" condition, subject to all existing leases, easements, zoning, restrictions and covenants. While a significant portion of the 144-acre parcel is vacant, several county and/or service agencies, including the Office of Veterans Affairs, a Veterans Health Clinic, Cornell Cooperative Extension Service and the Long Island Junior Soccer League are located there. Under the terms of the sale, they will be permitted to continue functioning at that location. Peter Collins, president of the LI Junior Soccer League welcomed the agreement. "I am very pleased with the terms of this agreemnt. I am sure that Wang's involvement will be a great asset to the youth of Long Island and our program."
