The Greater Long Island Running Club was treated to a very special evening at the Club's May 18 general membership meeting - as the charming, informative and entertaining Kathy Martin was the guest speaker. At age 47, Kathy, a resident of Northport, is Long Island's top Masters (age 40 plus) runner, and excels at every distance from short track events to the Half Marathon. Most recently Kathy was the second woman finisher overall and the first Masters finisher in the Canon Long Island Half Marathon.
The meeting was held at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library. Kathy was introduced to the audience of about 150 runners by GLIRC's Bill Benson, and she took it from there - with a talk that held the audience enthralled for more than half an hour.
The Long Island running community thanks Kathy for a job well done - she is as gracious and charming off the track and roads as she is a fierce competitor on the track and roads!
