Registration for the Town of Oyster Bay's Spring Walking Program will be open from April 12 through April 30.
"The experts agree that the health benefits of a regular walking routine cannot be over-emphasized," Councilman Joe Muscarella said. "The town offers a popular walking program that brings people together for the purpose of improving their health, expanding their social lives and having a wonderful time in the great outdoors."
According to Muscarella, registration forms for the Spring Walking Program can be obtained at Town Hall North and South, as well as local libraries.
"The Walking Program swings into action on May 3 and runs through June 10, Muscarella stated. "We've varied the days and offer an evening session in an attempt to accommodate everyone. Monday and Wednesday walkers can join the 10 to 11 a.m. class at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, beginning Monday, May 3. Anyone who prefers walking on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. can join the Marjorie R. Post Community Park walking session in Massapequa beginning Tuesday, May 4. And, for those who are available only in the evening, there will be a walking class at Marjorie R. Post Community Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., also beginning May 4.
"For several years now, the Spring Walking Program has given many of us a chance to participate in a healthy outdoor activity," Muscarella commented. "With a little perseverance, the town's walking program just might mark the beginning of a regular outdoor exercise routine that will last until the snow flies next winter."
