Old Bethpage Village Restoration will present the music of old Ireland and 19th century Irish-American tunes on Sunday, March 21.
The performances, which will take place within the historic village setting, are scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. The music will include traditional fiddle tunes accompanied by the tin whistle and period songs performed on an 1860s parlor organ, with tenor accompaniment.
The music of the Uilleann Bagpipes and celtic harp are sure to delight visitors to this special event. These traditional musical pipes differ from the Highland Pipes so commonly heard today. The Uilleann Bagpipes, also referred to as parlor pipes, are much softer in tone, making them more suitable for playing indoors.
Familiar reels and jigs, along with historically appropriate songs such as Kathleen Movourneen, The Minstrel Boy and The Wearing of the Green will be played in the spirit of the day.
