Winthrop Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery, PC, was a major supporter of the 1998 North American Wheelchair Championship Race, and that they have signed on as a sponsor for the 1999 event as well. The Wheelchair Championship Race attracted most of the world's best wheelchair racers to Long Island in June of 1998 and, thanks in large partly to Winthrop's continued support, an even bigger and better race is expected for next year's running on June 26.

The local wheelchair athletic community extended its thanks to Dr. Alan Hartman and the rest of the staff at Winthrop for their enthusiastic support for this most important event.

The Wheelchair Championship Race is conducted under the auspices of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Road Runners Club, Long Island's largest recreational sporting club, with POBRRC Wheelchair Athletics Coordinator Nick Katsounis serving as the race director.
