An environmental community awareness person visited my house this morning. She made me aware of the ecological problem of acid rain. I don't want to speak about all of New York state, but just my neighborhood.
As you might know, we use well water. Our neighbors are very conscious about water consumption, especially with washing our cars and watering our lawns. We follow the law. If acid rain becomes a major problem, which it already is, this could affect our drinking water, our consumption of shellfish and all fish in general, as well as the appearance of our houses and lawns.
I understand that none of us want to give up our cars, boats and plane rides, but I am hoping that some sort of legislation could find the means to create better cars and cleaner engines. Since most of the problem comes from the running of power plants, I would like to se better systems to control the acid residue that comes from the exhaust stacks that spew this problem into the air which we need to survive. Please put some pressure on our legislators to work on this problem. Thank you for reading this letter and possibly understanding the problems of all neighborhoods in our wonderful country.
