I am writing about the environmental and economic devastation in New York caused by acid rain. This problem results from pollution emissions from motor vehicles, industry and primarily, electric power generating plants. Acid rain is killing our forests and polluting our lakes, rivers and estuaries. Much of the acid rain impacting New York is caused by midwestern power plants burning dirty coal with inadequate pollution controls.
I urge Senators D'Amato and Moynihan to press hard for legislation in this session of Congress which will halt the destruction of acid rain. New York needs action on acid rain now!
