Nassau County Executive Thomas S. Gulotta, and President Officer Bruce Blakeman, working together with United States Senator Al D'Amato, announced today that a 3.36 acre parcel of vacant county-owned land in Plainview will be sold to the Postal Service for the erection of a new Plainview Post Office that will provide more efficient, effective service for area residents.
"This is a win/win situation for our citizens, as well as the Postal Service," said Gulotta. "Currently, this property is vacant and serves no useful purpose. By telling it to the Post Service, it will permit them to build a new, much needed facility, pending the required town re-zoning. At the same time, the sale will produce new revenue for all county taxpayers, retain jobs in Nassau County, and provide more efficient, effective service for area residents. I appreciate the assistance of United States Senator Al D'Amato, as well as our Majority Leader Bruce Blakeman, in helping to bring this about. It's a prime example of multiple levels of government working on behalf of all our citizens."
Several years ago, the LI District of the US Postal Service received a commitment of federal funding for the construction of a new modern facility to replace the existing Plainview Post Office in the Morton Village Shopping Center which had to be vacated. Temporary postal facilities have been built in the interim, but a new, permanent facility is desperately needed.
