Harold Levine, 82, of Plainview, died on July 14, 1998. Born in Manhattan, he attended Seward Park High School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from City College. He taught at Townsend High School in Manhattan and worked in the post office. He later taught English at Alexander Hamilton High School and became chairman of the English Dept. at Richmond Hill High School. He served as executive assistant for the Board of Education and chaired the English Dept. at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School retiring in 1977. He then began writing textbooks including English: A Comprehensive Course and The Joy of Vocabulary. He received letters praising his books from all over the world. Mr. Levine is survived by his wife Sophie (Trager); his children Robert and Norman; and his brothers William and Abe. Arrangements were made by Gutterman's Funeral Home, Woodbury. Interment Mt. Ararat Cemetery.
Carol Recchia, of Syosset, died on Aug. 9, 1998. She was a teacher in the Plainview-Old Bethpage S.D. for 26 years. Daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Recchia. Sister of Angel Recchia and Roberta Ranelli. Memorial service at the Hillside Methodist Church.
