Rev. John C. Hinsch 75, retired pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Plainview, died on June 18, 1998. Born in LIC in 1922, he graduated from Concordia Collegiate Institute and the University of Minnesota. He received his doctoral degree from Concordia Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1945.
Rev. Hinsch began his work in the Bronx and Putnam Valley, but most of his career was spent at the Church of the Good Shepherd. He served on many pastoral conferences and on the board of LI Lutheran High School. He was appointed the auxiliary bishop of the East Coast Synod of the Association of Evangelical Churches where he served until 1988.
Rev. Hinsch is survived by his wife, Norma; his children, John of Plainview, Lois Birner, Paul, Priscilla, Peter and James; his sister, Ellen; his brother, Tom; and 11 grandchildren. Service was held at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Interment St. Margaret's Episcopal Cemetery.
Marilyn (Mickie) Chetkof, 65, of Plainview, died on July 4, 1998. Born in Brooklyn, she attended James Madison High School. She was a volunteer at the Plainview Jewish Center and North Shore University Hospital at Plainview. She was a lifelong member of Hadassah. Wife of Bernard. Mother of Gary Chetkof and Lisa Casey. Sister of Renee Levy and Fred Rothbell. Daughter of Evelyn Rothbell. Grandmother of four. Arrangements were made by Gutterman's Funeral Home, Woodbury. Funeral service. Interment Wellwood Cemetery.
