Commissioner San Rosen, chairman of the Plainview Water District announced the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the water district's 1998 Water Conservation Poster Contest at a standing room only ceremony attended by the winners and their families. "Each year we receive an enthusiastic response to the poster contest from the students, and this year there was an overwhelming response, with over 500 posters entered," stated Commissioner Rosen. "Judging the posters was difficult because there were a significant amount of entries deserving recognition. Those who were honored tonight clearly grasped our current water conditions and conveyed it in their posters."

The Water Conservation Poster Contest is held for students in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. Students in grades 2 through 8 were invited to participate in a poster contest and address the question, "What can I do in my home today to conserve water?"

Awards were given out to each grade level. First place winners received a $100 U.S. Savings Bond. A $50 U.S. Savings Bond was awarded to both second and third place winners.

After the ceremony, Commissioner Sam Panciroli noted, "It is obvious that the community is committed to water conservation, with the school district, library and residents helping support the poster contest. We appreciate everyone's efforts and look forward to continuing the contest, which always receives a tremendous response."

"We are always looking for ways to educate the students and include them in our water conservation efforts," Commissioner Bernard Chetkof stated. "The poster contest has been successful beyond what we initially hoped for, and we are considering additional contests for the future."
