This letter is to complain about the parking situation at the TOB, Bethpage Railroad Station.

The parking situation has been poor in the past, but ever since the changing of the 8:01 train to the 7:58 train to New York, which now commences at Bethpage, the situation is unbearable. It will inevitably get worse because of the increase of families moving into the desirable towns of Plainview and Old Bethpage.

If commuters are not parked by 7:45 or before, they can forget about getting a spot. Their only hope is to chance getting a ticket by parking in the 2 hour limit spots (designated for cars without parking permits), or by parking illegally. Something needs to be done. Whether it is allowing commuters to park in the over 100 two hour limit spots or increasing the number of spots. It just seems unfair to those commuters who do not work the standard 9 to 5. They still need to purchase their monthly railroad ticket of $154.00 plus purchase a yearly TOB parking permit. This amount does not include the regular tickets received from having to park illegally.

As a person who is environmentally conscious, I prefer taking the railroad to work instead of driving. The parking situation leaves me no choice but to drive. This adds more cars to the already overcrowded Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway, and adds unnecessary exhaust to our already polluted air.

This unfortunate situation needs to be addressed and ultimately rectified.
