Plainview High School students Steven Lerner, Dustin Sheriff and Sean Garland are among more than 80 Long Island high school students who will vye for the championship when Vytra Healthcare's Vytra Cup is played Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Nassau Coliseum.
Vytra Healthcare and the New York Islanders have united for the second year in a row for the event which encourages physical fitness, teamwork and good sportsmanship among today's youth.
Lerner and Garland, both sophomores, and Sheriff, a senior, will work with teammates to bring the Vytra Cup to Nassau County this year. The cup is currently on display in the window of the Suffolk County high school hockey league offices at The Rinx in Hauppauge.
Two teams each from the high school hockey league association of Nassau County, Inc. and the Suffolk County high school hockey league compete in the Vytra Cup in a three-game "round robin" for the championship.
The event follows a 3 p.m. game between the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils.
