Plainview DECA Installs Members

The first event of the year was the DECA member installation which took place on Oct. 29, in the high school auditorium. The purpose of this event was to install the new inductees into the DECA family.

Several factors made it a memorable evening. Many prominent people from our community attended this event: Superintendent Dr. Anthony P. Cavanna, the newly appointed assistant superintendent, Michael Singleton, president of the board of education, Ginger Lieberman, and board member, Sharon Dinkes. From the high school, Principal Arthur Jonas, Assistant Principals, Gail Weinstein, Thomas Sena, and Paul Dallara. From business department, Chairperson Joseph Gennaro, Assistant DECA Advisor, Mrs. Roberta Kane, and DECA Advisor, Gloria Jones were in attendance.

Dr. Cavanna brought greetings from the Central administration and wishes all DECA members success with the upcoming year. Arthur Jonas talked to members and parents on the benefits of participating in DECA. Each officer gave a speech about their own personal DECA experiences. The presentations were well received by new members and parents, and truly inspired everyone to get involved in DECA.

In addition to the speeches each first, second, and third year member was initiated into DECA's prestigious club. They each carried a candle to the front of the auditorium, until all of the members stood together and pledged their dedication to this wonderful organization. The member installation was a fabulous beginning for what is sure to be a successful year.
