Hawks Season Ends with Defeat
The heavy winds and torrential rains kept the Senior Day crowd down to the faithful. However, the weather did not dampen the spirit of the Plainview Hawk football team which came onto field fired up to face Conference I Champion Massapequa High School. The Hawks playing inspired football trailed by only seven points well into the third quarter. The game ended with the Hawks on the short end of a 19-0 score.
After the game tears flowed, but the Hawks had nothing to be ashamed of. Often outmanned and out-sized the Plainview team came out week after week and gave their fans a 100 percent effort each and every time. Despite their 3-5 record the word "quit" was not a part of the teams game plan. This is a tribute to the boys and to the coaching staff including head coach Marc Collelouri and assistants Phil Lucchio, Peter Plushau, and Phil Revien. We, the fans, thank the Hawks for the hustle, desire and excitement they provided us with all season long.
For many of the Hawks this was their last high school game. Good luck to seniors Josh Berse, Mike Ushkow, Evan Kostewka, Luis Saavedra, Eddy Vulin, Josh Cook, Bobby Popadopoulos, Marc Messer, Frank Barile, and Adam Trentecoste.
To juniors Lee Lipschutz, Ryan Oxsenhendler, Jonathan Schubach, Peter Ruffini, Seung Won Park, Eric Greene, Ramji Srinivasan, Justin Bank, Brian Nysenbaum, Ryuan Pearch, John Wilet, Chad Kirschbaum, Paul Abbatiello, Jamil Soriano, Mike Vetter, and Jason Greenberg, we'll see you next year.
To the fans who supported the team all year, you were great.
Finally, we can't go without thanking the Plainview High School Cheerleaders who came out to support the team in good weather and in bad.
