Mammography Van to Come To Plainview December 8

Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs is bringing the Department of Health's mobile mammography van into the district. She encourages women over the age of 40 to take advantage of this life-saving exam.

The van will be at the Shop Rite shopping center, located at the intersection of Woodbury and South Oyster Bay Roads in Plainview from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday Dec. 8. Appointments will be scheduled at 15 minute intervals.

The Nassau County Health Department uses state-of-the-art equipment and trained professionals to conduct the exam. Insurance will be accepted. For women whose insurance companies will not pay for the screenings or do not have insurance, there will be no charge.

"Every woman should take advantage of this opportunity to take care of her health," said Legislator Jacobs. "I can't stress how important it is to have this exam. Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer."

Women participating in the breast cancer screening should not wear lotion, deodorant, perfume or powder on the day of the exam. Jewelry should not be worn around the neck and a separate top should be worn to make undressing easier.

Appointments are necessary and must be scheduled in advanced by calling Legislator Jacobs' office at 571-6216.
