Senator Carl Marcellino and Brian Zimmerman of the Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District were honored for their outstanding efforts on the part of the environment by the Huntington Oyster Bay Audubon Society at its 2nd Annual Walk/Run for Wildlife and Conservation on Sept. 28.
In his remarks accepting the award, Senator Marcellino praised the Audubon Society as being one of the organizations he truly respects. He commended Audubon as an organization which remains true to its values, visions and goals. The senator said he has had positive interactions with the Audubon Society, whether on a local or state level.
In accepting his award, Brian Zimmerman of the Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District said, “I am truly honored to receive this award today from the Huntington Oyster Bay Audubon Society. It is awards like this that give me the inspiration to work even harder for the people of Nassau County and their local governments, schools and businesses. I look forward to continuing to work with Audubon on habitat and wildlife issues.”
In her remarks, Stella Miller, president of the Huntington Oyster Bay Audubon Society thanked everyone for coming to participate in the Walk/Run for Conservation and Wildlife. Miller said that the proceeds raised by the walk/run would be used by the society to further protect wildlife habitat, to assist the society in providing education to the public regarding conservation and wildlife issues and in working to set public policy. She also expressed her thanks to the Planting Fields Foundation and New York State Parks for allowing the Huntington Oyster Bay Audubon Society to use Planting Fields.
Each participant received a shirt courtesy of Entroubadour. Starbucks of Woodbury provided cold drinks for the walkers as well. A raffle was conducted, with the top prize being a pair of binoculars valued at over $600 donated by Pentax binoculars. Other raffle prizes were donated by Sage Bistro, Wild Honey, Sapsuckers, Mara’s Homemade, Harbor Mist, Umberto’s, Mobil Family Auto Center in Huntington, the Bronx Zoo, Syosset Car Wash and Fairway Markets.
