Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club held their Annual Golf Tournament, named for the late World Golf Hall of Famer Joseph C. Dey Jr., on Monday, May 6, at Meadow Brook Club in Jericho. Hugh R. O’Kane, President of Hugh O’Kane Electric Company, chaired this year’s event.
“This year’s outing was an overwhelming success due to the tremendous support from both our corporate and personal friends. We attracted a sold-out crowd across a broad spectrum from both the Long Island and New York City communities,” said O’Kane. “We are thankful to all those that both attended and supported our outing this year.”
The 18-hole tournament comprised of 26 foursomes. First Low Gross Team winners were Nick Berens, Tim Grant, Stuart Katzoff and Sam Zarou. The Second Low Gross Team winners included Liz Berens, Wendy Havens, Amy Lane and Becky DeKeranguy. The First Low Calloway Team consisted of Joe Conroy, Sal Ciavirella, Sander Gjokaj and Steve Murphy and the Second Low Calloway Team included Jerry Firestone, Carmine Lippolis, Chris Francis and Ray Harold.
The Ladies Long Drive winner was Amy Lane and the Men’s Long Drive winner was Shar Aghili. The Closest to Pin was Frank Mistero at 6’3” who was also the winner of the 50/50 raffle. Mistero generously donated his portion of the winnings back to the club.
A dinner followed the tournament. 2012 Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year Kewan Beebe spoke about how the club changed his life. 2013 Youth of the Year Yaqarah Letellier also attended to exemplify the important role the Club plays to the children of the community, especially during their formative years.
