Baymen Undefeated Champion Wrestlers Capture Eighth League Championship Title

OBHS Wrestlers Ranked Eleventh in the NYS Sportswriters Poll in Small School Division

The Oyster Bay High School Varsity Wrestling Team continued their winnings ways this season by capturing their eighth League Championship Title since the wrestling program began in 1999. It was a great week of wrestling with victories against Mineola 15-19 and highly rated rival Locust Valley 36-33.  It was an extremely exciting and competitive match.

The Baymen completed an undefeated league season with additional victories over Wheatley, Cold Spring Harbor, Roosevelt and Carle Place to win the Nassau County League 4B Championship.

The wrestling team presently has an overall record of 12-2 and is currently ranked eleventh in the New York State Sportswriters Poll in the Small School Division.

The Baymen have been led all season by seniors: Ryan Arnel, Jon Escobar, Cody Exum, Elton Gonzalez, Jack Leguelaff, Blake Meyer, Rob Morgan and Dylan Rankin. Other team members who have been a vital part of this year’s success are: Vincent Catala, Jake Dimatos, Zach Dimatos, Marco Duran, Ian Estevez, Cassidy Exum, Alex Galizia, Ryan Hauser, David Lapidus, James LoRusso, Matt LoRusso, James Mon, Anthony Panella, Ryan Radecki, Matt Santos, Jack Tritthart and Dan Velesquez.

The team is coached by Jay Davis, Doug Axman, Mike Doria and Rob Piscitello. Coach Jay Davis brought Wrestling to Oyster Bay High School in 1999.  Since that time he has coached the team to eight League Championships including this year where the team was undefeated within the league.

Jack Leguelaff and Ryan Arnel each won their second individual tournament championship of the season. At the Locust Valley Invitational Tournament, Jack Leguelaff pinned his opponent in the first period for his title. Ryan Arnel won his title by a strong decision in the finals.  Cassidy Exum, Rob Morgan and Dylan Rankin each reached the finals and placed second. Cody Exum, James Mon and Ian Estevez each wrestled well to become tournament place winners.
