Local athletes of every age and level of ability are invited to participate in the special Clinic that is being offered in connection with the 2009 Runner’s Edge-TOBAY Triathlon. The clinic will be held on Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m., at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, 999 Old Country Road in Plainview.
Although it is geared toward those who are planning on competing in the August 30 Runner’s Edge-TOBAY Triathlon, the clinic is open to everyone, and would be of great benefit to anyone planning on doing any multisport event this year. The clinic is free of charge, and no advance registration is necessary.
Seniors Joe Jazwinski, Justin Nakrin and Tim Collery hope to join juniors Brian Dillman, Nick Gismondi and Chris Murdock in a return to the New York State Championships in Cicero New York on June 12-13. Justin Nakrin recently placed 2nd in the 2 mile at the Nassau Coaches invitational at Westbury High School with a personal record of 10:06.2. He was the top medal winner for the team, and hopes to break the 10 minute barrier in the 2 mile before the season is over.
Denis Hammil quoted Brooke’s mother Barbara in an article in the Sept. 8, 2008 Daily News. He wrote, “At 9:17 a.m. Brooke made one of the last calls out of the towers,” says Barbara. “She left a message at our house in Oyster Bay describing the room they were in on the 104th floor of Cantor Fitzgerald in the northeast tower. She said they broke the window to be able to breathe, asking for help to rescue them...”
If you were anywhere near Center Island Beach on Sunday, May 3, you might have wondered why the beach was so crowded on a rainy foggy day.
The beach was the site of the The Long Island Scholastic Regatta: The Regatta was sponsored by the Sagamore Rowing Club (the Crew Club of Oyster Bay). They were host to over 900 rowers from 26 clubs and schools all over the Tri-State Area.
Put on your best sneakers and join your family, friends and business associates in a casual, fun-filled day of activities for children and adults of all ages at the 2009 Sports Day. This event will be held on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Cantiague Park, Hicksville, to benefit the children of Schneider Children’s Hospital.
The always popular Anything That Floats Race will once again be a featured event of the WaterFront Center’s 8th annual Bay Day on Sunday, June 7, at Beekman Beach in Oyster Bay. Don’t miss this wacky fun race which challenges participants to create an outrageous floating device made of nontraditional materials. The race is a great way to jump-start a summer full of fun in the outdoors.
