OBHS students Owen McEvoy, Alex Gelabert, Aaron Rudnet, Nicholas Zucconi and Dennis Mejia participated in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walkathon” at Jones Beach on Oct. 20. Co-leaders Owen McEvoy and Aaron Rudnet organized participation on behalf of the OBHS National Junior Honor Society under the supervision of advisor Antonia Woodman. The NJHS students exceeded their team goal. The amount they have raised so far is $1,085, and is still rising.
Co-leader Aaron Rudnet commented, “It was a beautiful sunny day, and it was great to be a part of such a big and important event. The crowd’s energy reminded us of what an important cause this is, and it felt wonderful to do our part.”
Among those participating in the walkathon were the Oyster Bay High School Varsity Cheerleaders. The cheerleaders have been active all month supporting the cause. They held bake sales in the gym lobby after school to raise money. The cheerleaders raised over $1,000 for the cause.
In fact, the entire Athletic Department got involved. Many teams took part in “Pink Games.” The football team made and sold pink T-shirts.
