We hope you will read the Friends of the Bay column How’s the Water? this week. In it, Patricia Aitken reports on a rally held at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration where residents and groups protested Governor David Paterson’s proposed cuts to state parks.
Ms. Aitken details reasons why the state parks should not be cut including the cost of restoration of the parks after closing them; and jobs lost at a time when job creation is hoped for to swing the economy around.
It was good to know that Town of Oyster Bay elected officials were there to support the effort, and that Town Supervisor John Venditto asked the Governor to “Do the right thing.”
We have wondered if a better statement from the governor would be to ask employers to look at their options and consider adding one person to their payrolls. Maybe full time or maybe part time. Is there someplace that needs attention and would be a betterment for your company?
If people across the nation – those who could – just hired one more person the economy could result in an upswing.
Everyone is against every cut the governor suggests – maybe asking others to act might precipitate a change. It wouldn’t cost a penny to ask – and if you don’t ask, you don’t get anything.
